Don’t Let Wind Damage Go Undetected
When you think of wind damaging your home or business, you usually think it takes tornadoes, severe rain or thunderstorms to cause major wind damage to your roof. But wind doesn’t have to be strong to cause roof damage. Gusts of winds at 75 to 85 miles per hour can easily raise poorly installed tiles or metal roof areas. Undetected wind damage to your roof structure leads to increased rain and water damage.
Your property exterior is the first and last defense between you and the elements. You want to be aware of the effects of wind damage to your property as soon as possible. Your roof may have this type of damage and not be visible to the naked eye. During high-wind weather events, wind speeds fluctuate and sometimes even change directions. Cladding and fascia can be damaged or may simply fly away. This will result in future leaks. Damage to cladding, windows, rain carrier systems is also prevalent. We will give you a thorough examination of your entire residential exterior, even providing detailed photographs and comments for your review.
The primary cause of wind damage is from the partial vacuum created by wind blowing over the edge of the roof. Nature tries to neutralize the low-pressure area by bringing in air from a higher pressure area, usually from inside the building. This air pushes up on the bottom side of the roof assembly and, over time, loosens fasteners and breaks the adhesion making the roof susceptible to damage from the next moderate or strong wind. To counteract the effects of wind-uplift forces, the roofing and insulation should be adequately fastened to the roof deck, and a securely-fastened perimeter detail should be provided. Many contractors simply do not use enough fasteners to provide protection for such force.
We’ll begin by giving you an initial damage assessment, and then meet with your insurance carrier if necessary, and complete any repairs needed to have your property looking as good as new!
